Designing the General Manager Scorecard
One day, the CEO came to me with a challenge. He had an idea for a General Manager Scorecard—a unified report that would provide key metrics across all 13 branches. He sketched it out on a piece of paper and asked if I could bring it to life.
I was all in. Over the next six weeks, I worked closely with him to develop a dynamic, interactive report that pulled together data from procurement, inventory, operations, sales, and finance. The scorecard included metrics like gross margin, inventory levels, operational efficiency, and more.
What made this project special was the level of collaboration. I held sessions with the CEO and other stakeholders, gathering feedback and making iterative improvements. Watching them interact with the report and hearing their insights allowed me to fine-tune it to meet their exact needs.
When we rolled it out, it was a game-changer. For the first time, General Managers could see real-time data for their own locations and compare performance across branches. It fostered a sense of healthy competition and encouraged managers to adopt best practices from their peers.
Delivering the scorecard was a proud moment. It demonstrated how a clear vision, combined with technical know-how and collaborative effort, could produce a tool that had a tangible impact on the business. It was about more than just data; it was about empowering leaders with the insights they needed to drive success.
